Engagements

Where the two families first sit down together

The nichayathartham is smaller and warmer than the wedding that follows — both families, the formal exchange, the plate of gifts, and a meal taken together.

The Occasion

An engagement at whatever scale suits you

An engagement can be sixty people in a side of the hall or four hundred filling it, and both are normal. It is the occasion where the two families formally meet, the thattu of gifts is exchanged, the rings go on, the lagna patrikai is read out, and the wedding date is announced to everyone at once.

Because the hall is one open span, it takes either version without looking wrong. Use a portion of it and keep the gathering intimate, with seating drawn in around a decorated stage — or open it right out if both sides are bringing the whole family. The same air conditioning, dining and parking apply either way.

Practically, an engagement here is also the easiest way to see the venue in use before committing to the wedding. Plenty of families book the nichayathartham first, walk the hall on the day, and reserve the muhurtham date before they leave.

For the Ceremony

Built for both sides of the family

An engagement has two hosts rather than one, and the hall is arranged with that in mind.

  • Stage for the exchange

A decorated stage for the rings, the thattu of gifts and the reading of the lagna patrikai, visible from every seat.

  • A room for each family

Separate air-conditioned rooms with attached bathrooms, so both sides have somewhere of their own to prepare.

  • Intimate or full scale

Use a portion of the hall for a close gathering or the full 500-seat span if both families are bringing everyone.

  • Photography vantage

The mezzanine level and the ceiling lighting give the photographer clean angles without extra rigging.

  • Dining for both sides

The separate dining hall serves 250 at a sitting, so the meal after the ceremony is unhurried.

  • Air conditioned throughout

Full centralised AC across the hall, which matters for a ceremony held in the middle of the day.

Through the Day

How an engagement runs here

The ceremony and the exchange

The stage is usually set with two ornate seats and a floral backdrop, and both families are seated facing it on either side. The formal portion — the thattu exchange, the rings, the reading of the wedding date — takes under an hour, but every relative wants a photograph on the stage afterwards, and that is the part that needs room. Steps on both sides keep the line moving, and the ceiling lighting gives the photographs a warm tone without additional rigging.

  • Existing ceiling lighting suited to indoor photography

Welcoming the Families

Before the main ceremony begins, there is often a grand welcoming of the groom's family by the bride's side. The wide, pillar-free span of the main hall ensures there is plenty of space for families to greet each other, exchange gifts, and mingle comfortably. Once the welcoming and engagement rituals are complete, everyone can move to the separate dining hall for a traditional feast, giving the families a chance to bond.

  • Spacious entrance and hall for grand welcoming ceremonies
  • Rooms on site for both families to rest and prepare
  • Separate dining for 250 guests per sitting
  • Car and two-wheeler parking on the premises
